How to Create a DRT Journey (Dial a Ride)

The first step is to create a route. This will create a "time window" to allow the service to run and where passengers get assigned too for their requested pickup times.

How to Create a Route

Go to:

  • Main Menu
  • Route Manager
  • Build a Route

You then need to:

  • Specify the route with a name, for example, 101, Shopmobility, or Tuesday Cinema Trip - to uniquely identify the route
  • Select the route start date and estimated end time
  • Assign the driver (this can also be done later)
  • Indicate the number of wheelchairs required for the trip

Next, you need to select the vehicle that will be assigned to the route and click next.

  • Select the starting location from the route planning drop-down box
  • Click on Add Start Point
  • (You may want to add waypoints in between, such as if you need to go via a specific location on the route, such as a bus stop)
  • Repeat the process for the endpoint (even if it's the same as the start point) where the vehicle will end up at the conclusion of the route
  • Click on Add End Point (you should see the map pin the location at this point).

You can then add any further details about the trip in the further details box.

After this step:

  • Select the service area
  • Specify whether the route is recurring or not, for example, happening every Monday, etc.
  • Then press submit.

By completing these steps, you have created a route in the system, which will now enable you to add passengers to this service.

Creating a route means you don't have to add passengers right away but can do so in the future.

Adding Passengers to Your Route via Dispatch

In the first step, we created a route. Now, we need to add some passengers.

To do this:

  • Click create journey
  • Select DRT
  • Select the passenger from the drop-down list who is traveling
  • Select their journey type
  • Specify their payment source
  • Indicate the payment type
  • Then enter the outward details including the desired pickup date and time
  • Specify their pickup location
  • Specify their drop-off location
  • Then set their desired return pickup time (if the passenger is on a return journey)
  • Add any mobility needs and specify if they are traveling with a carer
  • Click the 'add the passenger to journey' button

If you are adding another passenger, simply repeat the passenger steps above. By doing this, you are onboarding your passenger.

When you have added your passenger to the journey (you can add more later),

  • Click create journey

Your passenger will now be booked onto the jojrney, offered an alternative time or be told they can't be fitted onto the journey as the slots already booked.
